How to Become a Real Estate Agent

To become an Affiliate Broker (Sales Person), the Tennessee Real Estate Commission requires you to have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate. You must complete and pass sixty classroom hours of approved classes in "Basic Principles of Real Estate." You may then take the state exam. After passing the state exam, you must return to school and complete a 30 hours New Affiliate Broker Course prior to becoming licensed, These courses are available several times each month to prepare you for the license.

FIRST. Check to see which of our classes best fit your schedule. (Daytime, Evenings, or Weekends.) The courses are offered several times each month.

SECOND. Select one Basic Principles Part 1 & one Part 2 class. Fill out the Registration form and return it to us to reserve a seat in class. You may register for just one Part at a time if you wish. Payment for each Part must be made no later than the first day of class for the part taken. You will receive three textbooks and a special "CD" containing many practice examinations in addition to other handouts during class.

THIRD. As our student, individual tutoring is available to you without additional charge during the enrollment of the Basic Principles Course. This course is concentrated and requires three to four hours of study each day after class. This is a career change, not just a course.

FOURTH. Students completing our Basic Course may review it free within five months of the starting date of the course.

FIFTH *. The State Exam is offered in five different cities in Tennessee, including Memphis. As of 1 January 2005, you are required to return to class and complete the New Affiliate Broker Course prior to being licensed. You will then take your Pass Notice/Application to one of the many Real Estate Brokers in your area and interviews for a job as an agent. Your broker will mail in your completed application and proof of insurance to the Commission. When your license is issued, you are ready to go to work. Dear Future Agent:

Thank you for visiting our website. It shows you how to become a Real Estate Agent. Additionally, the course schedules and registration forms are included. Our courses are accredited with the real estate commission for pre-license requirements. To take the State Exam, you will need to complete both Part 1 and Part 2 of our Basic Principles Course. You may take either part first. Daytime classes are 6 hrs. per

day for ten days. Evening classes are five hours per evening for twelve evenings, Monday through Thursday for three weeks. The Weekend classes include three hours Friday evening and six hours on Saturday and Sunday for four weeks. Upon passing the course we provide you with certification necessary to take the Tennessee Real Estate Examination. The State Exam is given several times daily in Memphis and four other cities in Tennessee.

Upon passing the State Exam, you must then return to school and take the New Affiliate’s course. This class is offered as a four-day class or as a five-evening class. At this point you may apply for your license.

While a high percentage of our students are passing the state exam on the first try, the commission will not allow us to guarantee you will pass. Additionally, the Commission has a policy restricting the issuance of licenses to persons with past criminal convictions, other than driving offenses, without having a hearing. We recommend you not take the course until this matter has been cleared through the Commission. Call us if further details are desired.

Please bring to class the following items: a pocket calculator, a pen and two large yellow felt-tip Highlighter pens. We provide you with all other books and supplies. RESCHEDULING is available at no additional cost. REFUND POLICY: Refunds are available for Part I & Part 2 prior to attending class provided any materials issued are returned in new condition.
